Annu Palakunnathu Matthew at Contemporanea 2025

August 02 - September 21, 2025

As part of Contemporanea 25: Archives of Suspended Memory, Annu Palakunnathu Matthew presents her first solo exhibition in Italy, HIDDEN STORIES. Italians from Abruzzo and Indian Soldiers in the Second World War. Curated by Cesare Biasini Selvaggi and Maria Teresa Capacchione, Hidden Stories follows the artist’s investigation into Indian POWs detained in the region and the courageous locals who sheltered them after the 1943 armistice. The immersive installation weaves together photography, objects, and oral histories to bring into focus the little-known encounters between Indian soldiers and Abruzzese families during WWII.
